RISD Retrospective

My final degree project using recycled RISD posters

For four years I saved my favorite posters from the RISD campus. I'd wait until whatever was being promoted was over & then add the poster to a pile under my bed. Below is a sampling of my collection.
In an effort to facilitate lasting emotions from this ephemeral collection, I decided to present the posters back to the RISD community. I reworked the papers to accentuate the elements that had called me to take the poster in the first place. I eliminated all of the details that advertised the past events, wanting to sell nothing but a spectacle.
Friends helped me install the wall!
I created a flip book to show the advancement of the retrospective project, including sketches, influential readings, & before & after shots of each poster.

Having preserved these materials & recycling other students’ work, this project obscures the passage of time. With advertisements for different groups & events placed side by side in one central style, the viewer can experience momentary amazement, rather than a narrative pathway that leads to a clear outcome. Here are some of the posters after I re-designed them!
I had a lot of fun creating patterns from the altered posters.
